On Twin Day for Spirit Week |
There it is, two friends teaching in the flesh. This photo was taken about 3 years ago during spirit week at our old middle school. This was our first year teaching together and we hit off starting day 1. . We met at Caddo Middle Career and Technology School (now that was a mouth full) during the first couple of days of teacher meetings in 2013. There were a number of things that made it impossible not to became close friends outside of school. First, we were both thrown into the roles of Cheerleader Coach and Dance Coach which neither of us had never done before. In addition to have to work together on spirit stuff, we were on the same grade level team and taught the same students. I guess we should also mention our closeness in age. With all of those things impacting us we set off to have an amazing year and at that time we didn't even know it. .
We are very collaborative and acted as a soundboard for one another. LaDonna brought the creativity while Malonda brought the ideas and organization to the table. Throughout the year we learned the ends and outs of our 1st year at a new school we managed to plan ALL the schools spirit activities, outside events for dance and cheer, cross curricular projects, and LaDonna's kids birthday parties. Who knew that all this planning together would land us this the highest scoring group of kids on the Louisiana state test that school year.
So began a beautiful friendship that's been going 3 years strong thus far despite one moving across the country and the other experiencing tragic change in her life. We still collaborate and act as each other's listening ear for all the big ideas that we've seen come to fruition and those things we hope to accomplish in the future, near and far.

I am LaDonna. First I'm a mother to 2 and wife to a Technical Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force. I am also a crafty middle school math teacher with a love for technology and a passion for fashion. I relocated to Colorado Springs Fall 2014 where I teach 7th grade math in a 1:1 iPad classroom with students who take the tablets home. I am very passionate about innovation in the classroom and giving the students a voice.
Prior to relocating to Colorado, I taught in Shreveport, LA for 6 years and 2 months. I had a 1:1 laptop classroom and a 1:1 iPad classroom in Louisiana. I received my BSE in Middle School at the University of Central Arkansas. I've been working on my Masters off and on for the past 5 years. I'm hoping to make completing my degree a priority beginning next summer.
In addition to teaching and taking care of my family, I have a blog and etsy store. Follow me @MrsWelchKnows, on Facebook, and on TpT.
